New Delhi, July 26-07-2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced a comprehensive overhaul of India’s examination system, introducing a new task force led by technology entrepreneur and Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.

The announcement follows widespread student protests over recent examination paper leak incidents that sparked demands for stronger safeguards and greater accountability.

In a video message, Modi said the country’s examination system must become more transparent, reliable, and technology-driven. He added that the government will introduce new legislation in Parliament to strengthen laws against paper leaks and impose stricter punishment on those responsible.

The Prime Minister’s announcement came a day after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid weeks of protests over the examination controversy. Modi did not refer to the resignation during his address.

The student-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which organized the demonstrations, ended its protests after the government agreed to several key demands. These include reforms to the examination process, withdrawal of police cases against protesters, and compensation for the families of students who died by suicide following the paper leak incidents.

Nandan Nilekani, widely known for co-founding Infosys and leading the development of India’s Aadhaar digital identity programme, will head the newly formed task force tasked with recommending long-term reforms to improve the integrity and security of the country’s examination system.

The government said the proposed reforms are aimed at restoring public confidence in examinations and preventing future paper leak cases.
