Bhubaneswar: More than 58 lakh voters in Odisha have been asked to verify and correct their details before the publication of the final electoral roll. The discrepancies were identified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s voter list.
According to election officials, the draft electoral roll contains around 3.13 crore electors, but nearly 58 lakh records have been flagged for what are termed “logical discrepancies.” These issues must be resolved before the final voter list is published.
What are the discrepancies?
The flagged records include cases such as:
- Parents shown as younger than their children.
- Unusual age gaps between family members.
- Husband or wife recorded with the wrong gender.
- A voter appearing in more than one location.
- Name spelling variations across different records.
- Family relationship details that do not match linked records.
Verification Process
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have started contacting affected voters. While many corrections can be made by submitting supporting documents to BLOs or through online verification, some cases will require a hearing before the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).
Deadline: August 4
Chief Electoral Officer R. S. Gopalan said that most discrepancies are minor and can be corrected easily. He assured voters that the verification process is intended to ensure an accurate electoral roll and that unnecessary inconvenience will be avoided.
Voters whose records have been flagged are advised to complete the verification process by August 4 to ensure their details are correctly reflected in the final electoral roll.
